The great news about campervanning around Slovenia is that the distances are short and the traffic on well-maintained roads is relatively light, which makes driving easy and enjoyable. But don’t be fooled by its small size, Slovenia is among the most diverse places on Earth and offers an incredible array of must-visit destinations. Staying in safe, clean and conveniently located camps will place you in the heart of the action.
You’ll begin your road-trip in Ljubljana, Europe’s greenest capital, which offers amazing sightseeing, excellent gastronomy and outdoor recreation. Heading east, you’ll visit Maribor, the second biggest city, and Ptuj, the oldest town dating back to Roman times. Each of these urban spots and their outskirts has ample opportunities to keep you busy. Heading over to the majestic Kamnik-Savinja Alps, you’ll discover some of the most picturesque corners of Slovenia, before moving on to world-famous El lago Bled for some more. Deep in the unspoilt embrace of El Parque Nacional de Triglav, you’ll set up camp in Bohinj, renowned sports hub of Kranjska Gora and the insanely scenic paradise of Soča Valle. Tons of fun will be had in this region, with hiking, cycling, rafting, ziplining, rock climbing and canyoning, to list just a few.
From the mountainous area of Kobarid y Tolmin with its lovely gorges and waterfalls, you’ll make your way across Slovenia’s enchanting Karst region, where visits to the spellbinding Cueva de Postojna and the medieval phenomenon of Castillo de Predjama are obligatory. The next stop is the coast, where the Mediterranean climate and pretty seaside towns, like charming Piran and lively Portorozzo and their surrounding treasures, will present you with a completely different side to Slovenia. The vineyards of Goriška Brda, appropriately dubbed Slovenian Tuscany, and the nearby jewel called Vipava Valley are sure to satisfy all your senses. Then, on the final leg of your journey, you’ll pass a few more gorgeous sites, including a UNESCO cave system, before coming full circle in Ljubljana.

Head east and discover the best of the Styria region. Stop in Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia, nestled on the banks of the Drava River, and discover Maribor, the capital of Styria, and the home of the oldest grapevine in the world.Â
Meet the first set of Slovenian Alps in one of the most scenic valleys in the country, Valle del Logar. Spend the day embraced by mountains with options of senderismo, cascadas and remarkable views. Enjoy a scenic ride on a panoramic road with plenty of side stops and interesting stories and spend the night at one of the highest-lying farms in the country.
Wake up to spectacular views and head onwards through the mountains, driving over a couple of mountain passes and a brief short-cut through Austria, to continue to Jezersko, a picturesque haven on the other side of the Kamnik-Savinja alpine range. This spot, unphased by modern times, kept its traditional charm and will impress you with its tranquility, rustic atmosphere and, of course, the views of the mountains. Continue and spend the night at Lake Bled.
One of the most popular places to visit in Slovenia is definitely El lago Bled. You will have plenty of time to discover all the reasons why when spending the day on the shores of the lake and exploring all the places you want to see there. From great viewpoints and scenic senderismo, to traditional visitas turĂsticas of historical places, you can spend the day as actively or as leisurely as you like.
Located deep in the Alpes julianos at the heart of El Parque Nacional de Triglav and only a short drive from Bled, Lago Bohinj is a nature-lover’s paradise. It offers countless options of spending time in nature, be it senderismo, ciclismo or proper mountain climbing. It will satisfy the needs of adrenaline junkies with nearby canyons y rĂos, but those looking for tranquil relaxation will not be disappointed either. Wherever you turn, breathtaking views are guaranteed.
In the very northwestern corner of Slovenia lies a small alpine resort called Kranjska Gora and it is an absolute favourite for local as well as foreign visitors who want to enjoy the mountainous setting. There are beautiful hiking and cycling trails in the area and the picturesque Lago Jasna, which you can see at the beginning of your drive up to VršiÄŤ Pase. This windy road will take you to SoÄŤa Valle, where you can opt for more hiking along the beautiful SoÄŤa RĂo.
Wake up in the fairytale land of SoÄŤa Valle in the adrenaline capital of Slovenia called Bovec. You can choose to spend the day senderismo in the area, chasing cascadas or getting your adrenaline rush by joining rafting, barranquismo o tirolesa activities. Either way, filmmakers of the Narnia movies knew why they chose this place to be one of the filming locations.
Further down the SoÄŤa River stream, you will visit the historic town of Kobarid, famous for its WWI battles and an award winning museum, but you can choose to keep your trail in nature and visit the unique La cascada de Kozjak instead or even try climbing some of the epic mountains in the area and see where the famous battles took place. The next town on your itinerary is Tolmin, where you can stop to check out the marvellous Tolmin Gorges before heading to the Karst area to spend the night.
And you are off to your next destination, a dreamy location of rolling hills with medieval villages, old villas and chateaus on top and vineyards as far as the eye can see. Goriška Brda, famous as one of the finest wine regions of Slovenia offer not only spectacular views and wines, but also excellent cuisine, friendly locals and a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
One of the most unique Slovenian regions and landscapes is undoubtedly the Karst. With its plethora of underground caves, you are bound to visit at least one on your trip to Slovenia. If underground is not your favourite place, you can choose to spend the day at the El criadero de Lipica, the cradle of the famous Lipizzaner horses and stop in the village of Hrastovlje to see the world famous dance-macabre frescoes. Your day will finish at the Slovenian Coast.
Besides the picturesque town of Piran, the Slovenian coast is dotted with towns, such as Koper, Izola and PortoroĹľ. The so-called Slovenian Riviera is a popular place for summer holidays with its Mediterranean vibe and the easy-going atmosphere. It is great to just relax there or hop on a bicicleta to explore the hilly surroundings full of vineyards and olive groves, enjoy some gourmet treats or the incredible history of salt making.
Enjoy an extra day on the Adriatic coast, in case you missed something the day before or you can take an extra day off to spend at the beach!
Make the best of your last day and squeeze in a cave visit, be it the most famous, Cueva de Postojna, or one of the lesser known but more adventurous caving options that the Slovenian Karst has to offer. On your way, you will also pass the popular Castillo de Predjama, a unique cave-castle wrapped in mysterious legends, a perfect stop to squeeze in before heading back to return the van.
