Coastal wine region

The entire Primorska (coastal) region of Slovenia is famous for producing strong, dry wines that linger in one’s memory. Slovenian Istria prides itself with Refošk (Refosco), the most popular wine of the region. Other top reds are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, and the whites come in flavours of Malvasia, Chardonnay, Rebula, and Yellow Muškat. Exploring the Primorska region definitely goes hand-in-hand with drinking wine. There’s something about the climate, the people and the traditions they uphold that makes wine-tasting an obligatory pastime in this beautiful part of the country.
