Triglavska Bistrica in Vrata Valley

Triglavska Bistrica in Vrata Valley

It’s the only national park in Slovenia and one of the oldest in Europe. Its 840 km2 covers 4% of the Slovenian territory and a huge portion of the country’s Julian Alps. The park is named after Slovenia’s highest peak, Mt. Triglav, and was established in 1981 to protect the pristine natural and cultural landscape within its boundaries. Hundreds of alpine plants flourish here and wild animals roam, including the ibex, red deer, chamois, brown bear, and the lynx, while 84 bird species are reigned over by the majestic golden eagle. Crystal-clear rivers, virgin forests, high mountain ridges, glacial lakes and valleys, peaceful plateaus and much more can be enjoyed in this magical place.
