The best way to explore Slovenia’s magnificently diverse countryside is by cycling through it. This amazing self-guided bikepacking tour will test your stamina and take you to the most unforgettable locations. You will cycle in the pristine outdoors, stop off at numerous locations cultural and natural heritage landmarks, and get a chance to stay at amazing glamping spots, tourist farms and authentic mountain huts. Saddle up and let the adventure begin!

Bikepacking involves cycling over a variety of surfaces and topography on a single route, and if you add some amazing locations to the journey, it can be the best way of exploring a foreign country. On this self-guided tour, you will cycle through a big portion of Slovenia, experiencing its unbelievable diversity as you go. The ride is slow enough to take in your surroundings and fast enough to see the countryside change before your eyes. The route is not the easiest, and although certain sections can be adapted, a fair bit of physical preparedness is necessary for this trip.

Traditionally, bikepacking involves camping, but as camps can be extremely packed during high season, this tour eliminates the hassle of pitching up tents by providing comfortable accommodations in the form of tourist farms and authentic mountain huts.

We can provide a bike, equipped with a rack and travel bags to carry your belongings. There will be plenty of opportunities for stopping off at important landmarks, detours, and fun side-activities like swimming or checking out the local cultural heritage. The great thing about Slovenia is it has an ample amount of shops on every step, so stocking up on supplies and refilling your water bottle won’t be a problem. In the event of needing repairs or any other issues that may occur along the way, we’re always at your disposal.

Fantastic ride among the vineyards and lovely villages. People are so nice as well. I am a wine lover and it's just a perfect combination of staying active and explore Slovenian wine and food at the same time.

Absolutely loved this day on bikes, going through those charming villages and the vines. The ride uphill was a piece of cake for us due to e-bikes. I highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear ?

It is important that your clothes are comfortable. It is recommended that you also have something warmer with you in case of a temperature drop or cold wind. It is best to consult with us few days prior the trip to see the forecast.

Is the route easy to find?

You will have a detailed GPS file of the route, but there are some local trails that can be hard to find. Don't worry however, even if you miss the exact trails, it is usually very easy to do a detour and get back on the correct path.

Can I get a guide?

Of course, we will be happy to provide a professional local private guide to get the most of the tour.

What should I bring with me?

Travelling light is the key. Dress in layers, have enough socks for each day and have an insulation and jacket just in case. 1-2l bottle of water is enough since you can refill the water on most places. You should have (we can rent out) an essential kit for basic repairs, however for anything bigger bike shops are not hard to find.

What in case of bad weather?

Even though Slovenia is small, it has quite diverse climate, so it is not unusual that there is nice weather somewhere else. In that case, we will do our best to adjust the tour to get the best out of the weather.

Am I fit enough?

You choose your own pace, but keep in mind that it is a long journey, so you should be able to cycle around 50km per day. The route has lots of hills, about 1000 vertical meters per day, and some of the trails are a bit technical, but nothing scary and most parts can be detoured.

What if I can't continue?

If you think that on some point you can't cycle anymore for any reason, you can always give us a call and we will pick you up and transfer you and the bike back to Ljubljana. If you have any issues with orientation or anything else, we are here to help!
