An unforgettable 6-day hut-to-hut hiking tour along a super scenic section of the famous Via Alpina in Slovenia. Every day is a new adventure as you tackle the undemanding trails across the Slovenian mountains with overnight stays at mountain huts, located in the pristinely stunning Triglav National Park.

The Via Alpina is a wonderful European collaborative Alpine project that’s been in operation since 2000. It consists of 5 international trails in 342 stages which run through 8 countries from Trieste to Monaco. For this amazing 6-day hiking tour we have carefully selected 4 easy stages of the Via Alpina which will take you into the very heart of Slovenia’s Julian Alps. The trip is suitable for anyone who can walk for up to 5-6 hours per day with breaks.

The trail leads across the unbelievable scenic landscape of the Triglav National Park, where you will get to experience life in the mountains and encounter some incredible Alpine attractions. This type of journey is called hut-hut hiking, meaning you will be spending each night at a different mountain hut location in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.

Mountain huts are basic, so don’t expect luxurious accommodations. However, they are clean and have all the basic facilities a hiker needs after a long day of exploring. Hut menus consist mainly of local alpine dishes. You’ll definitely regain the calories you lost during your hike and try something new at the same time. Typical food served in most huts are soups with sauerkraut, potatoes, barley, sausages and pork. Authentic and hearty stuff. And remember to bring some cash along, as there are no credit cards in the mountains.

If you're ready to experience wonderful sunsets and sunrises after hiking on beautiful mountain ridges, contact us and start planning your Via Alpina Slovenia adventure!

Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t worry, just drop us a line in our inbox. We will do our best to try and find you some company, so if you are flexible in your travel dates, let us know as well. Do you want a private trip? No problem, we got you covered too.

Why is the accommodation not specified?

We are always looking for the perfect fit for you. We use a few different accommodation providers that fit our standards but they are subjected to availability, especially in the high season. We can also adjust the holiday, keeping in mind your preferences and budget and can always find a more suitable solution for your taste.

What should I wear?

It is important that your clothes are comfortable. It is recommended that you also have some warmer and windproof clothing with you as temperature can drop or in case of cold wind. You can always leave excess clothes in the van after consulting with our guide.

How many people will be in a group?

We believe that your experience will be better in smaller groups. Therefore, there will be a maximum of 8 guests per guide.

What should I bring with me?

Bring enough water (can be refilled in the hut), snacks for three days and sunscreen or other sun protection. You can also bring trekking poles if you are used to them. Only take with you the most necessary cosmetics and basic personal care items for an overnight stay. A fresh t-shirt and a pair of socks for each day. If you have your own sleeping liner you can bring it with you, or you can get a disposable one in the huts for a few euros. Also note that there are no restrooms in nature, only in the hut.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

In case of bad weather the tour can be adjusted, postponed or you will be fully refunded.

Am I fit enough?

The tour is flexible and it can be adjusted to your preferences, skills and fitness. Nevertheless, you should be comfortable with hiking for around 5-6 hour per day, with as many stops for break as you wish.

Is the tour kid friendly?

Our minimum age for tours is 8 years old. Children should be able to hike for 5-6 hours with stops for break. If you are planning to go on a tour with young kids, please let us know in advance and we can adjust the tour if necessary.

Who will be our guide?

On our tours you will have professional local guides. Our guides will make sure that you will receive expert guiding combined with great fun and memorable experiences.

What is the tourist tax that is not included in the price?

A tourist and promotion tax is a fee that every visitor has to pay for each overnight stay all over Slovenia. It consists of two parts: each municipality charges a tourist tax fee, which goes towards financing and maintenance of tourist facilities in the area, and the Slovenian Tourist Board charges a promotion tax, which is used to promote Slovenia. Depending on the municipality, the tax rates vary - from 1.5€ in some locations to 3.13€ in Ljubljana or Bled (per person, per night).

The tour is just packed with amazing highlights, one wouldn’t expect from a simple hike this one looks at a first glance. So much history on the way, from the Franja hospital to the paths where once was an international border and finally the Triglav lakes valley where one can stay for a week and just enjoy the nature around. The organization of everything was perfect, our luggage was transported to the end destination without problems. The accommodation in the hut is pretty basic but comfortable enough so no complaints.

The tour is brilliantly put together, as it starts in the middle of nowhere and then very quickly brings you to one of the most beautiful mountain ridges I have ever hiked on. Absolutely undemanding and the most scenic route then brings you to the heart of Julian Alps and before you know it you are in one of the top spots, Bohinj. Coming there on foot just feels rewarding and the last day of relaxing by the lake is as perfect as holidays get.

The mountain ridge from Petrovo Brdo to Komna plateau is the most scenic piece of hiking I have ever experienced and I am a hiker for more than 40 years! Unfortunately, we had some rain and fog on the last hiking day so there were no views on the last part. Luckily we had enough spare clothes to change and I recommend anyone to have some too. The guide team was very helpful to provide us with useful information on what to take with us beforehand as well as gave us precious tips on how to dress for the weather each day so the hiking remained enjoyable even in the rain. I am grateful for the experience and on tours like that it just makes so much sense to take a good guide, it is definitely worth it at the end.
