Exploring Slovenia’s Alpine world on foot is an incredible adventure that allows you to immerse yourself in nature and experience the region’s landscape and its treasures up-close. This walking holiday will take you to places most visitors to Slovenia never get to see and unlock the secrets of the most picturesque land the country has to offer. From hidden glacial lakes to unforgettable views of majestic mountains, from mythical forests and pastures above peaceful valleys to ancient gorges and crystal-clear emerald rivers that carve their way through this awe-inspiring wilderness.

Your daily itinerary is comprised of 3-4 hours of hiking down undemanding, gradually ascending trails in the company of a professional local guide. We will transport you between locations with vans and your guide will have a different route planned for each day, making sure the walk is tailored to your needs. You will stop off at amazing locations, including traditional mountain huts, farms and alpine villages, where you’ll taste some fantastic authentic dishes and get a feel for the rustic lifestyle in the very heart of the Julian Alps. DAY 1 - Bled & Mount Vogel

Get settled at Lake Bled, the most popular alpine resort in Slovenia, your home for the next four days. Start your walking adventure after a short drive to Bohinj area and a cable car ride to Vogel, a skiing area in the winter and a walker’s paradise the rest of the year. Surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas, the trails of Vogel are the easiest in the Slovenian Alps at such elevation. Enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Bohinj, an absolute pearl of Triglav National Park. To energise before your walking, we will treat you with a nice traditional lunch in a mountain hut.

Start your day at the crack of dawn and head up to a small hill in Bled, called Ojstrica, for a spectacular sunrise view of Lake Bled. After breakfast and maybe a quick nap for the sleepyheads, we will head out to discover Voje Valley. Our walk will start at Mostnica Gorge with trails and bridges that cross this stunning creation of nature. Halfway into the valley, we will stop at the Voje mountain hut for lunch (and some of the best pies ever!) to fuel up for the rest of the day. The Voje Valley opens up and crossing shepherding meadows and forests, we will reach another pearl, the Mostnica Waterfall. After our return to the starting point, we will head to Lake Bohinj for some free time, swimming or, for those most eager, some more walking along the lake’s shore. We will wrap up this exciting day with a real treat, a gourmet dinner at a local family-run restaurant.

An absolute favourite for anyone staying at Lake Bled, is a hike through Vintgar Gorge, located very near. Following Radovna River on boardwalks and trails, this refreshing and shady walk is a perfect start of our day. After Vintgar, we will drive through the less-known Radovna and Krma Valleys with their almost untouched traditional way of life to reach Vrata Valley, right in the heart of the Julian Alps. Vrata Valley is marked by the Triglavska Bistrica stream and a great walking trail all the way to the head of the valley, where you will be in awe of the great northern face of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. Our lunch break will include a stop at the Aljažev dom hut, a popular base for hikers and mountaineers that head up to the higher peaks. Our highlight of the afternoon will be the Peričnik Waterfall, one of the highest among Slovenian waterfalls, where you can literally walk behind it.

After a short drive, we will re-enter Slovenia in the very northwestern corner and enter a valley, called Tamar. Most of the valley is closed for traffic, which makes it a perfect hiking destination and the entry point is by Planica Nordic Center, the home of ski-flying. You will be able to see the enormous ski-jumping hills before the start of the hike. The trail to the head of the valley is surrounded by incredible views of the Julian Alps. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the pickup and which transfers are included?

The included pickup and drop-off at the end of the holiday in the price published on our website is in Ljubljana or Ljubljana airport. For any changes, please notify us upon booking. The included transfers are all the transfers between places and/or activities specified in the itinerary.

Where do I eat when the food is not included?

Both our back office team and our guides know where to go. We can give you recommendations or even pre-book some places for you. You can be adventurous and find places on your own. Either way, let us know if you would like any sort of help.

How fit do I need to be?

Walking planned on our walking holidays is easy to moderate - the terrain is not so difficult, there are no major ascents and the pace is meant to be gradual. You have to be able to walk roughly about 4 hours. Your guide is there to take care of you and in case they see you are having difficulties, you can rest assured they will help you out.

What should I wear? Do I have to bring anything with me?

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the holiday regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, you can see all 4 seasons change in the same day, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer and rain gear. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in. Your guide will let you know each day what kind of weather you can expect for the next day.

I have food restrictions. Are there restaurants for me?

It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note that the places where we stop for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.

Will I have some time to myself?

If you want to, sure! We are well aware that some people love to stay in groups while others prefer some more alone time on their trip. We wanted to give you the opportunity to do things your way. It is your holiday, after all! As long as you respect the group timings and locations designated by your guide, please feel free to customize your itinerary and create your own adventure!

What is the tourist tax that is not included in the price?

A tourist and promotion tax is a fee that every visitor has to pay for each overnight stay all over Slovenia. It consists of two parts: each municipality charges a tourist tax fee, which goes towards financing and maintenance of tourist facilities in the area, and the Slovenian Tourist Board charges a promotion tax, which is used to promote Slovenia. Depending on the municipality, the tax rates vary - from 1.5€ in some locations to 3.13€ in Ljubljana or Bled (per person, per night).
