It lies at 1800 m and accepts 70 guests. Vodnikov dom boasts amazing views to the west, which are especially breath-taking at around dinnertime from the viewing terrace. Yes, the sunsets there are out of this world. A gorgeous view of the higher-lying Planika and Triglav can also be viewed from this hut, and below it we can usually observe grazing sheep on the high mountain pasture called Velo polje.

There is a spring of excellent drinking water next to the hut, and we can even wash with warm water, which is an absolute luxury in Slovenian mountain huts. The hut received its name after the famous Slovene poet Valentin Vodnik, a great lover of the mountains, and is open in the summer.

Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih https://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/koca-pri-triglavskih-jezerih/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 16:55:53 +0000 http://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/koca-pri-triglavskih-jezerih/ Continued]]> Only three hours of hiking from Bohinj, this wonderful hut stands in an idyllic location by the Double Triglav Lake at an altitude of 1685 m. The location is truly a miniature mountain paradise and also a crossroads of some of the more visited hiking trails as well as a transfer station, so it is very useful when exploring these parts, and consequently very popular. The first hut on this site was built back in 1880, and the building we can stay in today dates to 1988.

The hut can accommodate 200 people, of which only 30 can sleep in rooms, so these are usually booked well in advance, as the hut is open during the summer season.
We can reach many high mountain destinations from this hut, even those more moderate mountain climbs, so the location is extremely popular and suitable for all types of hikers.

Planinski dom Petrovo Brdo https://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/planinski-dom-petrovo-brdo/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 16:56:41 +0000 http://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/planinski-dom-petrovo-brdo/ Continued]]> The Petrovo Brdo mountain hut is not really a mountain hut at all, as it is accessible by car. Nevertheless, it serves as an excellent starting point in the heart of the mountains at Baška grapa and Selška Valley, or as an excellent local refreshment spot after a long hiking tour.
It was built in 2000 and has one room and shared beds for up to 8 people. If you book it as a group, Petrovo Brdo becomes a fantastic private lodging.

Numerous mountain trails lead past this lovely hut, like the Slovenian mountain trail, European E7 footpath, Via Alpina, the Škofja Loka mountain trail, the Geological trail and the Loka cycling trail. Petrovo Brdo is therefore an incredibly welcoming pitstop for all who venture into this part of the Slovenian Alps.

Kredarica https://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/kredarica/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 16:54:33 +0000 http://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/kredarica/ Continued]]> This highest-standing mountain hut (2500 m) is probably the most famous of its kind in Slovenia. Officially called Triglavski dom, it is located on a plateau called Kredarica, from which the shortest yet far from the easiest route to Triglav leads. That is why this hut is extremely popular among Triglav enthusiasts. No wonder it has been enlarged several times and can now accommodate up to 240 guests for overnight stays. When the weather is good and during weekends, this place is booked weeks in advance.

The first hut in this location was built in 1896 on the initiative of Jakob Aljaž, the priest who is also credited for erecting the famous tower on Triglav. Today, the limited amount of electricity is provided by wind and solar panels, and the hut is supplied with food and drink by a helicopter. The offer and prices of drinks are therefore appropriately high. The water from Kredarica’s reservoir is not drinkable and is intended for washing only.

Like in all mountain huts, Triglavski dom is divided into private or shared sleeping quarters. Rooms are often the first to get booked, a room has to be booked very early before the season.
As the hut is perched on a ridge, it offers fantastic views to the south and north, as well as a good portion of the Julian Alps. This hut is officially only open in summer, as it also serves as Slovenia’s highest weather station and two meteorologists stay up there all year round. They kindly receive visitors during winter months, but you have to make do with sleeping in unheated rooms.

Dom Planika https://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/dom-planika/ Thu, 04 Feb 2021 15:37:52 +0000 http://slovenia-holidays.com/accommodations/dom-planika/ Continued]]> Planika is among Slovenia’s most authentic mountain huts that can be reached within 5 hours of hiking. It stands at an altitude of 2400 m on a high plateau south of Triglav, and is an excellent starting point for the ascent to our highest mountain peaks. Planika is just the right size to offer comfortable shelter to a large number of hikers (49 in private and 94 in common rooms), but still small enough to give you a sense of cosiness. Guests can mingle in the shared dining area and exchange their Alpine tales, which is certainly among the main perks of staying in mountain huts.

The hut’s complex consists of two separate buildings, which guarantees a quieter night time stay. The original hut was built here as early as 1871 with the current facilities dating back to 1992. Supplies have to be helicoptered in, meaning that the hut’s offer is basic but most welcoming after a daylong hike. The water in the hut is not drinkable, as the reservoir only stores water intended for washing. But that’s part of any mountain huts true Alpine charm!
Planika is only open during the summer season and boasts exceptional views of the southern Julian Alps and the Bohinj Valley below.
