Drežnica is a village in the Municipality of Kobarid in the Littoral region of Slovenia. Perched above the Soča River on a small plateau under Mount Krn, this beautiful rustic place has a storybook location and a rich history and tradition stretching back a millennium. Drežnica is home to one of the most famous Slovenian carnivals of pagan origin. Unmarried boys carve out their own wooden masks, a tradition that’s been passed on for generations. Local cuisine included numerous authentic dishes, such as the drežniški štruklji (rolled dumplings). Another fascinating fact about Drežnica is its very own goat species, the only recognized autochthonous Slovenian goat breed.
