Itinerary of the trip

The five-day Slovenia itinerary will start in Bled, one of the most beautiful Alpine resorts in Europe. Resting in the foothills of the Julian Alps and set along the glacial Lake Bled, it is among the most famous attractions in Slovenia. You’ll have the entire day to yourself, so you can take in the magnificent views, stroll around and get a feel for the place. Make sure to also get some rest for all of the adventures that lay ahead.

After a hearty breakfast, we will experience the best that Bled has to offer. We will take a tour of the Bled Castle, and go for a relaxing ride with the traditional Pletna boat to Bled Island. For a bit of healthy exercise, you can opt to hike along the stunning natural attraction of Vintgar Gorge. We will also visit the less crowded but just as beautiful Lake Bohinj located in the heart of Triglav National Park. You can also take a cable car to Vogel Mountain, rising above the lake and offering some of the best views in the country, before returning back to Bled.

Don’t believe a fearsome dragon was living in the Karst underworld? After a scenic drive to Postojna, you will see with your own eyes that the stories are true when you meet the “baby dragons” living in Postojna cave. World-renowned for its mysterious underground world, you will find out that Karst is just as interesting on the surface. If you are brave enough, step into the fairytale world of knights at Predjama Castle, which is the largest cave castle in the world. Experience the company of over 300 Lipizzan horses in Lipica, one of the oldest stud farms on the planet. After an eventful day, our group will depart for the beautiful seaside where you’ll have some free time in the evening to explore. IMPORTANT: The temperature in the cave is 10 °C, so make sure you have warm layers with you.

Make sure to put on some sunscreen and grab your sunglasses when exploring the sunny and warm Slovenian Coast. The famous old town Piran will charm you with its well-preserved ancient town walls and the narrow streets with countless stories to tell. Did you know that this picturesque town grew with the help of salt? Prepare to be amazed when visiting the Sečovlje salt pans, which are one of the last remaining salt pans in the Mediterranean that still maintain the 700-year-old tradition of producing salt by hand. In the late afternoon, we’ll head back to Ljubljana where you can enjoy the town’s lively atmosphere and the fantastic nightlife.

Our final day of your 5 days in Slovenia will be spent strolling the lively Slovenian capital. We will discover the city’s main sights and attractions on a walking tour through the old town and enjoy a leisurely boat ride on the Ljubljanica River, which will let us see the city from a different perspective. We will also pay a visit to the Ljubljana Castle, a mighty fort overlooking the city, which offers a breathtaking view not only of Ljubljana but also of the Alps in the north. As you might have heard, Ljubljana is known as a mecca for foodies, so we recommend trying some traditional cuisine for the perfect finish to your Slovenian holiday.

Your accommodation for the first two nights will be in the alpine resort town Bled, from where you will discover the natural paradise that is Triglav National Park. On the third day, you will spend the night enjoying the ocean breeze on the Slovenian coast where the romantic spirit of Piran will make you wish you want to stay forever.

Your final visit will be to the vibrant capital of Ljubljana, which will enchant you with its remarkable architecture and local cuisine. Ljubljana is also a central hub for all travellers so you won’t have any problems catching a bus, train, or a shuttle to Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport or the nearby airports in the neighbouring countries.

The included pickup and drop-off at the end of the holiday in the price published on our website is in Ljubljana. For any changes, please notify us upon booking. The included transfers are all the transfers between places and/or activities specified in the itinerary.

Both our back office team and our guides know where to go. We can give you recommendations or even pre-book some places for you. You can be adventurous and find places on your own. Either way, let us know if you would like any sort of help.

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note that the places where we stop for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.

The tour plan was really wonderful, a good balance of urban and outdoor locations and experiences. The trip app worked perfectly, making it simple to keep organized with excursion vouchers, route maps, site descriptions, etc. it also made it easy to communicate with the travel company when we occasionally had questions. We were amazed at how much variety there was in a relatively small area. I highly recommend this company and this particular trip plan for anyone who would like to explore this area of Slovenia.
