It’s not only one of the main attractions to see in Bled, but probably the whole of Slovenia. Besides a café and an obligatory souvenir shop, Bled Island is home to ancient legends and is shrouded in mystery. You’ll have to ascend 99 steps to the 17th century Church of the Lady, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Decorated with remains of Gothic frescos from around 1470, the church stands on its original foundations built five centuries before that. Yes, impressively old. Once inside, make sure to ring its famous wishing bell. By the way, it has been known to work.
