Located on the outskirts of Ljubljana, Velika Planina is a high mountain plateau renowned for its authentic shepherd huts and beautiful views of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps and beyond. Velika Planina is also a perfect MTB destination. Alternating macadam trails and some slightly more rugged pastoral paths will lead us down super soft grassy terrain that feels like cycling on puffy clouds. A fantastic introduction to Slovenia’s world of mountain biking.

Kranjska Gora is arguably the most famous Alpine resort town in Slovenia. Embraced by majestic mountains, it’s an all-year-round sports destination that will take your breath away. The MTB tour will take you up into the mountains north of Kranjska Gora, so you can enjoy the view of the Julian Alps giants on the opposite side. After our excursion, a visit to the exceptionally beautiful glacial Lake Jasna and some time to relax in this peaceful refuge.

Most of the tour runs through cool forested areas and down off-road single-track trails. There is plenty of room for customization of the routes, making the terrain we encounter suitable for both MTB beginners as well as experienced mountain bikers. What makes this MTB tour incredibly unique is that its top-notch routes run through pristine natural surroundings, located practically in the heart of a European capital. Diehard mountain bikers will also get a chance to try out sections of the world-famous “Golovec trails”.

Best ‘štruklji’ in Slovenia
Take a ride through one of the most beautiful forested karst plateaus in Slovenia. We’ll venture down a network of incredible forest trails right in the heart of Triglav National Park and enjoy breathtaking views of the Julian Alps. Idyllic villages, green pastures with grazing cattle, and traditional cheese-making still alive and kicking, Pokljuka is a vision of Alpine paradise, made for biking.
Pokljuka is also right next door to Lake Bled, and that’s where we’re taking you after the biking thrills across the pastures. We’ll stroll down to the famous alpine lake, taste the famous “kremšnita” dessert, and if you want, visit the oldest castle in Slovenia, perched on a cliff overlooking the lake.

A must-do mountain biking tour in Slovenia
One of the most scenic ascents in the region
This MTB tour takes place on the picturesque slopes under the Karawanks and the longest mountain ridge in Slovenia, Košuta. We start off by ascending through shady forests, until we reach the wide-open mountain pastures, where we enjoy the fresh mountain air, endless views of the valley and the peaks of the glorious rocky giants towering above our heads. Compared to Velika Planina, this high mountain plateau is more peaceful, wild and less visited. A truly unspoilt natural wonder.

We’ve saved the best for last. The Kobariški Stol is one of Slovenia’s mountain biking delicacies. The trail is reached along an old mule path from the First World War, which winds elegantly along the southern rims. The views extend in all directions, and our electric-assist bikes make the ascent and descent a super pleasurable experience.
After the exciting biking escapade, we’ll swoop down to the emerald jewel called the Soča River, where we’ll marvel at its splendour and relax in the refreshing cool of the riverbanks. The surroundings are, like every pace we’ve visited, truly inspiring.

Things to know
Our tour caters for a wide age range, typically between 30 and 60 years old, but age is simply a state of mind, as they say, and we welcome anyone over the age of 18! Tours are designed at your own pace and you will enjoy no matter what your age. Each evening your guides will chat with you about the following day’s activities and give you an idea of the sorts of trails you can look forward to. If there’s anything you feel anxious about, your guides will be happy to discuss it with you.
Many of our travelers join as singles. We charge single supplement fee to solo travelers for single room use. But don’t worry, we can pair you with another traveler of the same gender if you like.
Cycling planned on our cycling holidays is moderate, with some a bit more technical sections but mostly run on gravel and dirt roads. The e-bikes will help us out on most of the ascents and you will choose your own pace. All out the tours on MTB holidays are adjustable and our guides will make sure to make the best of your holidays.
Where the meals are included in the itineraries they are in a group setting. Your guide will also be with you during these scheduled meals. During the meals that are not included in the itinerary, you are free to choose where you would like to dine. Your guide will advise you of the best places to dine. You can choose to join with others and decide to dine together somewhere or if you desire some independent time, you are also always welcome to do your own thing.
It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the holiday regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, you can see all 4 seasons change in the same day, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer and rain gear. Your guide will let you know each day what kind of weather you can expect for the next day and don’t worry – extra layers can always travel behind us in a van.
