Koper
Description
The lovely seaside town of Koper is Slovenia’s main port on the Adriatic coast. Koper’s medieval Old Town is built around Tito Square, a Venetian-influenced landmark, which includes the Praetorian Palace and a Gothic-style loggia. The town’s architecture can also be admired through the Da Ponte Fountain, a replica of Venice’s famed Rialto Bridge and the 12th-century Cathedral of the Assumption that features a tall campanile. Lined with great restaurants, Koper offers possibilities for cycling, hiking, water-based activities, and has a very appealing urban vibe. It is very close to the picturesque jewel of Piran, the small town of Izola, the resort town of Portorož, and the famous Sečovlje Saltworks. Koper is also on the doorstep of the remarkably attractive winegrowing areas of Goriška Brda and the Vipava Valley, in case you desire some top-quality wine, and a short drive to Postojna Cave and the pretty white horses of Lipica.
