Description
The surreal beauty of the Slovenian Alps offers unforgettable adventures suitable for all ages. This winter wonderland is packed with places to see and snow activities to engage in, so we’ve compiled a list of options for you to get the very most out of your break.
Begin your vacation with night sledding, a wonderful experience for youngsters and adults alike, just a short drive from Ljubljana. After you get your first dose of winter fun, continue to Lake Bled, the symbol of Slovenia’s natural splendor, and a perfect base for wintertime exploration of the surrounding area.
There is nothing like the sound of snow crunching under your boots and some of the snowy Alpine peaks are welcoming even in the wintertime, so get ready for a true winter fairy-tale on an easy-grade hike in the beautiful Julian Alps. To continue your stay in true Alpine spirit: The early bird catches the view. Getting out of bed 30 minutes before sunrise to hike up a nearby hill is definitely worth it. It involves an undemanding ascent that opens up breathtaking views of Lake Bled and the majestic mountains beyond.
Then it’s time for some more snowy fun, which includes a deeply enrooted Slovenian tradition: cross-country skiing. And there’s no better place to venture into the wilderness than Pokljuka, a scenic plateau, or the gorgeous Tamar Valley. Both locations are stunning, especially in winter, and are crisscrossed with excellent cross-country ski trails of varying difficulty levels. Friendly and helpful local guides will show you exactly how it’s done and recommend the best trail for you.
Another amazing option is to explore this pristine countryside off the beaten track. That’s why we’re taking you snowshoeing. It’s an ancient method used by the locals of old to travel great distances across snow-covered terrain. You’ll get the chance to try out this technique called “flotation” as you wander through the forests and meadows in the heart of the Julian Alps.
If you think the paths are too simple, don’t worry, our guides are sure to suggest more demanding routes, depending on your needs and capabilities. Besides snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, you’ll also be able to try the very unique way of traveling on snow: dog sledding.
And to spend your winter skiing in Bled, check out our Ski Holidays Bled.
In any case, your winter break in Slovenia will be packed with adventure. Just choose your dates and get ready for a week of snow-filled fun.

Things to know
The included pickup and drop-off at the end of the holiday in the price published on our website is in Ljubljana. For any changes, please notify us upon booking. The included transfers are all the transfers between places and/or activities specified in the itinerary.
Both our back office team and our guides know where to go. We can give you recommendations or even pre-book some places for you. You can be adventurous and find places on your own. Either way, let us know if you would like any sort of help.
Our activities included in the tour are appropriate both for absolute first-timers to people with experience. For most of the activities included in the itinerary, you need to be moderately fit, meaning that you are able to hike up a slope for about 30 minutes. In case you are unsure about any of the activities, feel free to ask us anything and we will help you out.
Not at all. We make sure that beginners and first-timers feel comfortable and safe. Our experienced guides and partners will make sure you understand what you need to do and will always make sure you have all the information you need, the right gear and the right word of encouragement.
It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.
It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note, that the places where we stop off at for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.
If you want to, sure! We are well aware that some people love to stay in groups while others prefer some more alone time on their trip. We wanted to give you the opportunity to do things your way. It is your holiday, after all! As long as you respect the group timings and locations designated by your guide, please feel free to customize your itinerary and create your own adventure!
