Spend your day exploring the city’s main sights and attractions on a walking food tour through the old town, all the while stopping for delicious tastes of rich Slovenian traditional cuisine. Enjoy a leisurely boat ride on Ljubljanica River, where you will be able to see why this is considered one of the greenest capitals in Europe. Try your own cooking skill as you tackle traditional Slovenian recipes by yourself under local guidance at a cooking class or just help out enough to feel very much accomplished when you are trying out the delicacies that came from under your own two hands.

The cafe on the island specialised in the most traditional Slovenian pastry - potica, which you will get to try and learn more about. The afternoon will be reserved for gorgeous Lake Bohinj, famous for its cow cheese, and we will make sure you get to try some!

DAY 3 - Caves & local food tasting

Another day, another must-see! We are off to Postojna Cave, the queen of caves, where a small electric train will take you underground for a unique experience. The dripstones and the halls of this cave are so spectacular that any description fails to do them justice. A short drive away from Postojna, we will pass by Predjama Castle as well, a unique structure with mysterious stories and a wonderful photo-stop. We will feast on a traditional lunch in Vipava, a valley famous for its wine making traditions and stop at a local winemaker’s to taste some of those fine wines.

Frequently Asked Questions

I am a single traveller, how can I book?

Don’t worry, just drop us a line in our inbox. We will do our best to try and find you some company, so if you are flexible in your travel dates, let us know as well. Do you want a private trip? No problem, we got you covered too.

Why is the accommodation not specified?

We are always looking for the perfect fit for you. We use a few different accommodation providers that fit our standards but they are subjected to availability, especially in the high season. We can also adjust the holiday, keeping in mind your preferences and budget and can always find a more suitable solution for your taste.

Where is the pickup and which transfers are included?

The included pickup and drop-off at the end of the holiday in the price published on our website is in Bled. For any changes, please notify us upon booking. The included transfers are all the transfers between places and/or activities specified in the itinerary.

Where do I eat when the food is not included?

Both our back office team and our guides know where to go. We can give you recommendations or even pre-book some places for you. You can be adventurous and find places on your own. Either way, let us know if you would like any sort of help.

What should I wear?

It is important to dress for the season. Slovenia has all 4 seasons, so please check the weather forecast before the day trip regarding temperatures and rainfall. When you are close to the Alps, the weather can change fairly quickly, so your best bet is to always bring an extra layer. We recommend shoes you will be comfortable in.

I have food restrictions. Are there any restaurants for me?

It really depends on the level of your restriction. Vegetarian options are fairly easy to find in Slovenia, but vegan dishes, on the other hand, are extremely hard to come by in rural areas of the country and in smaller towns. Please note that the places where we stop for lunch are often traditional and may have difficulties accommodating you outside of their standard menu. We suggest you keep this in mind.

Will I have some time to myself?

Yes! Our holidays are designed to give you some free time every day to relax and spend it the way you want to. It is your holiday after all! For any advice and suggestions you can always turn to your tour leader or our back office, who will be more than happy to help you out.

What is the tourist tax that is not included in the price?

A tourist and promotion tax is a fee that every visitor has to pay for each overnight stay all over Slovenia. It consists of two parts: each municipality charges a tourist tax fee, which goes towards financing and maintenance of tourist facilities in the area, and the Slovenian Tourist Board charges a promotion tax, which is used to promote Slovenia. Depending on the municipality, the tax rates vary - from 1.5€ in some locations to 3.13€ in Ljubljana or Bled (per person, per night).

It was a quick last minute trip so we didn’t expect much but we were amazed about Slovenia in general. Everything is very close so even in three days you get to see and experience a lot. We spent a day in Ljubljana and another one in Bled area, which is probably the most touristic spot in the country. We finished with a lovely and more relaxed day in Vipava where we could stay for another week easily. I only can recommend this holiday - in fact, I recommend a longer one.

Slovenia truly is a hidden gem for any foodie and the selection is amazing, even if small in size. We had wonderful hosts and guides who made sure we enjoyed ourselves to our fullest and shared lots of knowledge with us. The week was lovely organized with some sightseeing and enjoying nature as well, so a pretty complete week I must say.

What I learned this week is that Michelin stars and google ratings are far from most important thing when finding a great place to eat and enjoy. Slovenia has a bunch of great small cosy restaurants I would have never found myself and some of the meals we had with our lovely group is what made this holidays so special to me.
