The surrounding natural environment proves otherwise - pure serenity. Krvavec is also great for kids, as it has a children’s park with obstacles and varied terrain. Slightly further south, you’ll hit the runs at the resorts of Cerkno and Soriška Planina, located on the border between the mountainous and coastal regions of Slovenia. The Krvavec ski resort is the largest of its kind in Slovenia. It offers more than 25 km of excellent pistes, covering an area of 110 ha. It can be reached within 20 minutes by car from Ljubljana, followed by a 7-minute gondola ride to the top of the mountain. Krvavec is ideal because it comes with a nice balance of easy blue and green runs as well as some fantastic red and black pistes for the adrenaline seekers among you. Situated above the 2000 m mark, Krvavec ensures a very long ski season that stretches from December to early April. It is considered a sunny resort and the views above the cloud line are out of this world. On slightly cloudy days, you even get the illusion of skiing on an island in the sky.
Soriška planina lies on the border between the Primorska and Gorenjska regions, located in the southwestern part of the country at an altitude between 1,287 m and 1,550 m. There are five lifts operating within the ski resort, which offer awesome panoramic views. In addition to Alpine skiing on its 10 km of ski trails, you can also enjoy backcountry skiing and cross-country skiing on well-maintained trails that run through the forests of Jelovica, as well as sledding, snowshoeing and winter hiking, making Soriška planina a truly incredible wintertime experience.
The Cerkno ski resort consists of excellent slopes supported by modern facilities. The resort has been voted the best Slovenian ski resort for several consecutive years. Besides a variety of pistes, the Cerkno resort offers cross-country skiing in the surrounding area and a track for sledding.
The Kranjska Gora ski resort is perched in the stunning embrace of the Julian Alps. Famous for its accessibility, all the slopes in this ski resort are conveniently located on the edge of town. There are 20 km of skiing and snowboarding slopes for varying difficulty. Kranjska Gora is the best winter sports hub in Slovenia. It annually hosts the slalom and giant slalom of the Alpine Skiing World Cup while the nearby Tamar Valley, a superb cross-country skiing area, also hosts ski jumping competitions at Planica.
The Sella Nevea-Kanin ski resort is the highest in the country and the first cross-border ski centre in Europe. Its altitude of 2,300 metres ensures skiing conditions remain good until spring. Mt. Kanin is a cable-car ride from the town of Bovec. The slopes are accompanied by dramatic rocky outcrops and memorising views which on a clear day can stretch all the way to the Adriatic. Sella Nevea-Kanin’s 30 km of slopes present you with excellent skiing in surroundings that can only be described as magical.
The ski resort Tarvisio–Monte Lussari is located in the Province of Udine (Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia). It consists of 25 km skiing and snowboarding slopes, supported by 11 lifts. There are also a number of back-country ski trails and off-piste descents for those who prefer venturing into the wild.
