In terms of natural diversity, Slovenia is the undisputed European champion and it gives us the utmost pleasure to share its sights, sounds and tastes with you and your family. 8 adventure-packed days will be spent enjoying fun activities at two spectacular Alpine lakes, exploring the countryside and towns of the Slovenian coast and its vibrant capital. But the best part of this holiday is that you can create your own itinerary day-by-day, adventure by awesome adventure.
Your holiday will begin in the stunning mountainous region of Slovenia, more precisely at Lake Bled, the country’s most famous landmark. In addition to seeing all the main attractions, you'll be able to choose between various destinations and activities in and around Bled. From cycling or horse-riding, to hiking through a magnificent gorge or paddle boarding on Lake Bled itself. And for a dose of adrenaline, there’s ziplining above a beautiful river valley and an adventure park overlooking Lake Bled.
From Bled we’ll take you to another fantastic glacial lake called Lake Bohinj, where more super fun activities await. Taking a cable car up to Mount Vogel will present you with jaw-dropping views of the Alps and a chance to walk down an educational trail high in the mountains. You can go kayaking down a crystal-clear alpine river, hiking in a lovely gorge or cycling through an amazing nearby valley. If you’ve never been canyoning, this is your perfect opportunity. It involves climbing, jumping, ziplining, and abseiling along a stream inside an ancient gorge. Whatever your preference, we’ve got you covered.
From high in the Alps to the Adriatic coast and the sunlit Karst. For the next leg of your adventure, we’ll take you to the vibrant seaside town of Portorož. The drive there is quick, but it feels like being teleported to a completely different country. You’ll be able to stroll through the streets of Piran, Slovenia’s prettiest coastal town, go on a boat ride, check out a fish farm, or relax in a mud spa. On a trip to the Slovenian Karst, you’ll explore the most incredible cave in the world and visit a medieval castle built within a rocky cliff. And when all your other senses will have been fully satisfied, a gourmet tour will give your taste buds an adventure of their own.
You’ll wrap up your family holiday with a trip to Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. The choice of activities doesn’t end there. You’ll be able to experience what life is like on a Slovenian farm, learn to cook and taste the best Slovenian wines while your children enjoy themselves at the Museum of Illusions. If your energy levels permit, the last day can be spent on a bike tour of Ljubljana, a superb way of getting to know our green capital.
Get settled in Bled, your perfect family holiday location, and cover all the main attractions. Visit Bled Island on a traditional pletna boat ride and Bled Castle with some of the best views of the lake, as well as interactive exhibitions, which are great fun for the whole family!
Choose how your day is going to unfold. In the morning you can decide between hiking in Vintgar Gorge*, cycling, horse riding or paddle boarding. If you want some relaxation and entertainment for the young, you can opt for a morning at a local wellness center with pools and waterslide for the children. The afternoon will be reserved for more adrenaline activities and you can choose between kayaking, ziplining, a visit to the adventure park or summer sledding on the nearby hill. We also have an evening option of wine tasting for the parents and escorted mini golf for the children.
On this day we will head to the area of Lake Bohinj, a popular active destination for families and people who love the outdoors. Here you can choose between cycling, a cable car lift to Vogel mountain or hiking in a nearby valley with a gorge. Lake Bohinj is a beautiful place with trails and swimming areas along the lake shore, so you never really run out of options. In the afternoon, you can choose to go canyoning, an adventure with hiking, sliding, abseiling and jumping into natural pools, while experienced guides make sure it is completely safe.
Depart from Bled for a change of scenery and head to the Slovenian coast. Get you and your family settled in the most popular town on the Slovenian Rivera, Portorož, with numerous shops, restaurants and activity options. After check in, head to nearby Piran, the most picturesque medieval town on a small peninsula and see all its main attractions, meander the small colourful streets and learn about its history and legends. Enjoy some free time with a stroll or a swim on the town’s beachfront and get used to the Mediterranean pace of life.
The Slovenian coast offers some nice cycling paths, which you can choose to enjoy for a few hours before lunch time or enjoy some downtime on the beach. You can opt to visit a nearby fish farm and the traditional salt flats, all located inside a nature reserve, on a guided paddleboard or kayaking tour if you wish to stay active. If you prefer to leave activities to the kids, you can enjoy a special spa in the salt pans, which uses sea water and natural mud for their treatments.
The magic of this tour is that you really create your own itinerary. On this day, you will be able to choose between three different experiences. You can opt to leave the coast for the karst region and visit Postojna Cave, the most popular attraction in Slovenia. With its underground train ride, remarkable cave structures and stories of dragons, it makes for a perfect spot that the whole family will enjoy. We will also stop in Predjama Castle, an architectural marvel built into a rock cliff, located very close to Postojna. If you are interested in local traditions and food, you can join a vintage gourmet tour that includes a drive through the coastal countryside in vintage vans, a visit of olive groves and an olive oil press with tasting and traditional lunch. Your third option is to embark on a boat tour and get to experience the Slovenian coast from a completely different perspective.
The temperature in the cave is 10C, so make sure you are dressed properly.
Leave the coast, and before heading to Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, embark on a unique experience and visit an authentic Slovenian farm, where your whole family will help and try out different farming activities, such as collecting eggs, peeling corn, making bread and working the fields. An exciting way to get introduced to where our food comes from and experience a day in the life of a farmer. After checking in at your Ljubljana accommodation, you can choose a wine tasting for the parents and an escorted visit to the Museum of Illusions for children or you can enjoy a cooking class all together, learn how to prepare traditional Slovenian dishes and feast on the fruit of your labour.
On the last day of your holiday you can opt for the Ljubljana Bike Tour, a great active way to see not only the city center and the old town but also surrounding attractions and the green areas of this vibrant city.
